It may have been a grey, dreary cold day in Duluth but members of the Lake Superior Modern Quilt Guild grabbed their brightest quilts, bundled up, and gathered for a walkabout around Duluth's iconic Aerial Lift Bridge! LSMQG QuiltCon Charity Quilt Raffle We are raffling the 2018 Quilt Con Charity quilt. Raffle ticket prices are $10.00 per ticket or three tickets for $25.00. Funds from the raffle will be distributed as follows: reimburse cost of making the quilt, remainder divided equally between Safe Haven Shelter and Resource Center and LSMQG Education Fund. More information about Safe Haven can be seen here. The raffle drawing will take place at the August meeting. On Thursday, May 17th through Saturday, May 19th we will be selling raffle tickets at the Minnesota Charms Quilt Show being held at the AAD Shrine Hall located at 5152 Miller Trunk Highway. Thank you to Cheryl, Alane, Sue, JoAnn , Denise, Maxine, and Claudia for manning the ticket table on the days of the show! We are asking members to sell tickets. Please contact Claudia (send an email to the guild) to get your booklet of tickets. Any unsold tickets should be returned by the August meeting. Lynn Carson Harris Weekend Dates for the trunk show and classes are below. A separate email will be sent with the details about registration. Thursday, October 4th: Trunk Show with Lynn Carson Harris. She will show her quilts and talk about her creative process. Free to members. Non-members $10.00 admission paid at the door. Friday, October 5th: String Theory Class 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Saturday, October 6th: Intuitive Piecing with Solids 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Venue: Hope Methodist Church, 301 W St. Marie Street QuiltCon 2019 Members can start booking hotel rooms at a discounted rate NOW. Riley Blake Challenge Bring all of your creations to show and tell at the June meeting! 2019 QuiltCon Charity Quilt This year’s theme (Tiny Piecing) and palette were revealed. For more info, click here . If you have a quilt design idea to suggest please email it to the guild. Project Pouch So far over 50 pouches have been made and donated along with extra toiletry supplies. Questions were asked about where to find the Noodlehead Open Wide Pouch pattern. Fabric Dying class with Frank Palmer This will be a FUN day of instruction in dying fabric with chemical, colorfast dyes that will last. Saturday, July 14th from 11:00 AM to FINISH at Alane’s house. Fee is $135.00 for 8 yards of fabric, dyes, and synthrapol. Class limit is 12 people. A down payment of $70 is due by June 14th Everyone attending is asked to bring a dish to share for a pot luck lunch. Contact Alane for more information. August Mini Quilt Challenge This challenge is to be inspired by a photo or image of your choosing and interpret it into a mini quilt using modern quilt design concepts. Bring your inspiration photo, whether a printed photo, one on your phone, or a magazine image to the June guild meeting. You may use any fabrics, colors and techniques you choose to create your mini quilt. Your finished quilt must measure at least 18” on each side. Your mini must be fully completed, quilted and bound (or faced). Bring your masterpiece to the August meeting for a chance to win a special prize! (Don’t forget to bring your inspiration photo too!) For inspiration, check out the Quilt Design A Day group on Facebook, and read this article from the MQG about finding inspiration all around you. LSMQG Painted Turtle Medallion QAL Alane shared the inspiration that led to the naming of her design. She shared the next section of the medallion, the striped border. You are set to make some great changes in this world, and I'll be waiting for all these stuff to happen. Reading your experience at the meeting, it seems like a lot of information have been discussed and I am so happy that it became even more productive! I was actually excited to see the result of the things you will do after the meeting because after that, I am sure that you'll get busy executing all things that were discussed on the meeting. It is something to look forward to, I am sure of that!
