QUILT WALKABOUT
It may have been a grey, dreary cold day in Duluth but members of the Lake Superior Modern Quilt Guild grabbed their brightest quilts, bundled up, and gathered for a walkabout around Duluth's iconic Aerial Lift Bridge! Well, Folks … Mother Nature's 'April Fool's' joke came a bit late, but she wins... QUILT GUILD MTG CANCELLED for Thursday, April 11, 2019.
I recommend we Sew and bring the project to Show at the May 9th Meeting... just hunker down and think 'it's pretty.' (gag) … or be inspired by the Snow Quilt!

“Quilts Are Magic” Quilt Show at Kruk Gallery University of Wisconsin-Superior Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center. 2144 Catlin Ave. and 19th St. Superior WI 54880
Exhibit dates: April 4 - April 26, 2019 Opening Reception: Thursday, April 4, 2019 5 - 7 p.m. Gallery Talk: Friday, April 5, 2019 Noon - 1:00 p.m. Scott Lunt aka 'Starfire' has been a fixture and founder of the flourishing music scene in Duluth. In 2014 he visited McTavish Quilt Studio with his mother and ended up getting hooked himself. Since that visit he has made nearly a quilt a month. He draws from the fabric of Duluth-both figuratively and literally. Taking inspiration from the built environment and music scene in which he is enmeshed. Lunt sees the process of cutting, piecing, working with color and texture is something akin to conjuring spells and the quilts produced as evidence of his magic. Hosted by Scott Lunt. “Join me at the UWS Kruk Gallery for the opening of my solo quilt show featuring works spanning 20 years. The opening reception is April 4th from 5-7PM and the show will hang through the month.” … “I’m pleased to announce that The Hopper Shuttle will be running between The Cedar Lounge and the Kruk Gallery from 5-7:30 on the day of the show.” **This activity is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, thanks to appropriations from The McKnight Foundation and the Minnesota State Legislature’s general and arts and cultural heritage funds. https://www.facebook.com/events/433340840743722/?notif_t=event_aggregate¬if_id=1554379145010650 Alane Davis, “Lu-pine” designer
#igquiltfest Today’s prompt is Solid Love ...I totally recognize that I rarely work with only solids. But this quilt holds a special place in my heart. Based on the lupine flowers that grow wild in the woods and along the roadsides in northern Minnesota, my design was chosen by my local guild to be our #charityquilt for #quiltcon2019. The color palette was determined by the Modern Quilt Guild as well as the theme which was tiny piecing. Through the making of this quilt I became even closer to all the guild members who participated in its construction. The amazing quilting was done by @mctavishio at McTavish Quilting Studio 💜 It is a very special quilt indeed filled with great people and great memories. I was so thrilled to visit our guild’s charity quilt at #quiltcon ! This quilt is very special to all of us because it was a true group effort. The piecing of this quilt was done by many hands and it was directed in large part by a very dear friend and guild member who recently passed away. This quilt embodies her spirit. Beautiful, complicated, full of life, and representative of so much rugged, natural beauty that each of us who lives here in the Northland hold so dear. For me anyway, our quilt, Lu-pine, will always be a clear, beautiful memory of her. And it was made even more special by the unique, artistic quilting of the one and only @mctavishio resulting in the perfect symbiosis of piecing and quilting. We are all very grateful that our quilt was included in the current issue of #quiltconmagazine . You can learn more about the inspiration behind it’s design there. 💚💙💜 |
