QUILT WALKABOUT

It may have been a grey, dreary cold day in Duluth but members of the Lake Superior Modern Quilt Guild grabbed their brightest quilts, bundled up, and gathered for a walkabout around Duluth's iconic Aerial Lift Bridge!

Let's see what’s in store for our meeting on Thursday, July 13th at 6pm Karen McTavish’s Quilt Studio.

Labeling Your Quilt
We all have quilts that we've been meaning to label "someday." Well, someday has arrived! Grab your quilt and hand sewing supplies (and finger presser) for the guild meeting this week.
We will begin by watching some video segments which speak to various ways you can label your quilt. Then we will spend some time creating our own individual labels and sewing them on the quilts we have brought. The guild will provide a basic 3x4 inch white/off-white label for each person in attendance and demonstrate the stitching technique.

Guild Member Input
We would like your input on two items this month. For those of you who cannot attend a survey will be sent out via email after the meeting.
  • 2018 National Speaker/Teacher: We’ve done some research on costs to bring in a nationally renowned modern quilt speaker/teacher and would like to share that information with you and gather your input.
  • MQG Quiltcon Charity Quilt: It’s that time of year again where the MQG has published the theme and guidelines for the 2018 Quiltcon Charity Quilt Guild Challenge. The theme this year is “Modern Traditionalism”. We’d like to share that information with you and gather your input.
Guild Updates
  • August Meeting: Details regarding our ‘picnic’ meeting at Harrison Community Center on Thursday, August 10th will be shared. How’s that Paint Chip/Shape challenge coming along??????
  • Donalee Workshop: We will be providing a registration update regarding the Donalee workshop in September and sharing supply information in the meeting. Remember, registration for her workshop opens to the public starting with July 14th.
  • Jamie Swanson Luminary Quilt Workshop: We will be sharing the details of the workshop to be held October 21st

Show and Tell
Of course, these are the fireworks of the night where we all get to ooooooooo and ahhhhhhhhh! Can’t wait to see what you have all been working on this summer!
See you Thursday, July 13th at Karen McTavish’s Quilt Studio, 1831 E 8th Street!

My grandmother loves to make quilts when we were little kids. We live in a country where summer is very rare, so it is always winter. We always get so cold and even though we were wearing layers of jackets, it still is not enough to keep us warm. I appreciate very much how she would spend all of her time just to be able to make us our own personalized quilts. It really goes to show how grandparents love their grandchildren so much.
